January 1, 2014 – As of 2014, businesses that have personal property where “the True Cash Value of all of the commercial or industrial personal property located within the city or township that is owned by, leased to, or in the possession of the owner or a related entity was less than $80,000 on December 31, 2013” are eligible for an exemption from paying the personal property tax. Businesses can fill out Form 5076 instead of their form L-4175 (2014 Personal Property Statement). This must be filed by February 10, 2014 with their assessor.
